GRANDMOTHER JACKMAN

One of the prettiest names I've ever heard is Sarah Marinda Marble. I love the rolling alliteration. This lady has been best known as Grandmother Jackman. She married Daniel Wells Jackman 1 November 1878.
They had fifteen children. As the story goes when the last baby was born, it was twin boys, Golden and Rulon. Grandmother Jackman had given birth to thirteen other children. "If they're going to start coming in pairs," declared the good woman, " then I quit!" She was a good mother, teaching her children principles of righteousness and honesty. They all loved her as did the grandchildren. Daddy was one of those. He often talked about Grandmother Jackman's yard and garden and the "fruit trees of every kind, even almond and walnut trees." Daddy also told us that his grandmother could be found almost any day whistling a joyful tune or singing a little song. I have since come to notice our James whistling as he goes about. He sounds so nice, it's such a pretty sound, that it reminds about Grandmother Jackman.

I've been told by older cousins who actually were priveleged to know her in life, how happy her dark brown eyes were and how they danced and smiled. Sarah died 15 July 1949 in Blackfoot, Idaho where she lived with her daughter,Emily Snyder, and her family. Because Daddy loved her, he taught us to love and respect her. I miss her although I never did know her in this life. I know she was a lovely lady. In the photograph above, Grandmother Jackman is seated center/front. It is her daughter Amy, Daddy's beloved mother, who stands directly behind her.
